Changing the Way We Live (list od Nataszy)

My husband and I are building our dream home, it will be a home like no other, it will be extremely contemporary, with all modern conveniences, but once built, it will be totally self sufficient. We will be able to generate our own clean electricity, we will never have to pay for hot water, heating or air-conditioning. We want to share our experiences with everyone. We want to show that as individuals we can all make a difference in saving our environment.

I have lived in Europe for over thirty years and have had the opportunity of putting into place more environmentally sound practices. I now live in the US, where I hope that our experiences will help educate others.

"The Need to Go Green": The average American household generates over twenty-two tons of carbon dioxide each year. In the whole world twenty-two percent of carbon dioxide emissions are generated here in the United States. Demands for fossil fuels such as gasoline and coal are expected to increase greatly with the predicted growth of the U.S. and global economies. When we use energy, we burn of fossil fuels and this results in Carbon Dioxide emissions. A combination of Carbon Dioxide emissions and greenhouse gases cause the earth to ‘warm-up’. These emissions trap the earth’s heat in our atmosphere and cause the average global temperature to rise. The consequences of these can be seen in increased extreme climatic weather. If we do nothing now to change the way we live global warming will continue. The climate changes will have major environmental consequences. If we all make changes in the way we live and do something about this now, we can reduce the effects of global warming.
